A1c Testing for Long-Term Results

Testing your blood sugar as often as your doctor prescribes is crucial to managing your diabetes. But it’s also important to get an idea of how well your management program has been working over time. That’s where an A1c test comes in.

A1c is the name given to glycated hemoglobin—a fancy term for the proteins in your blood (hemoglobin) that have been linked with excess blood glucose (sugar) that your cells haven’t absorbed.

An A1c test looks at how much A1c you have in your blood. Since the lifespan of a red blood cell is about 120 days, an A1c test can tell you how well your management program worked over that period of time.

A1c tests are important because they often provide warning signs of diabetes-related complications such as nerve, eye, kidney and blood vessel damage.

A1c tests should always be performed along with regular blood glucose tests for day-to-day management of your disease.

Liberty makes it easier for you to test the way you should by providing you with home delivery of all the diabetes products you need, as prescribed by your doctor.
